What does a watershed address look like?
It starts with your name, then your house by number, then the road you live on, then the town, and finally the state you live in. Each part of your address is a larger area. Watersheds work the same way. Each small stream is part of a larger river system.
What is meant by water shed area?
A watershed is an area of land that drains all the streams and rainfall to a common outlet such as the outflow of a reservoir, mouth of a bay, or any point along a stream channel.
Why is it important to know your watershed address?
It is important to realize our location is always within a watershed. All domestic, agricultural, horticultural, or industrial activities that occur in a specific watershed will impact surrounding water quality and quantity. within that watershed will flow “downhill” to the water system that drains it.
How do you find a watershed area?
Watershed Area One method to find the area is to count squares using a grid (See box at right.) You can also use a tool called a “planimeter” to trace the boundary of the watershed (it will calculate the area within the boundary), or a dot or grid counter to determine the area.
