How long does a manufacturer have to update MSDS?
Manufacturers and importers of hazardous chemicals must review and update any SDS they produce at least every five years. All SDS must state the date they were last revised (this information is often included in Section 16—Other Information).
How often does MSDS need to be updated?

A Safety Data Sheet shall be reviewed at least every 3 years. Records of SDS updates such as content, date, and version revision, shall be kept for 3 years.
How soon must a manufacturer or importer of hazardous chemicals update the SDS following new discoveries about the hazards of that chemical?

Any updated SDS should be sent within three months of any new and significant information regarding the given hazardous chemical.
How often should the manufacturer or supplier update a products SDS?
It is desirable but not mandatory for suppliers to provide updated SDS for products sold prior to that timeframe. However, in work places that are subject to the Canada Labour Code, the SDS must be reviewed and updated at least every 3 years.
Does MSDS have expiry date?
Yes. Under WHMIS law, an MSDS for a controlled product must not be more than three years old. If you are still using a product that you bought more than three years ago, you may not have a current MSDS. Contact the manufacturer or supplier again and ask for a newer version of the MSDS.
How long must a safety data sheet for a hazardous material?

The standard requires all employee exposure records to be maintained for at least 30 years. An alternative to keeping both data sheets, however, is provided for in 29 CFR 1910.1020.

What MSDS sheets are required?
The Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) (29 CFR 1910.1200(g)), revised in 2012, requires that the chemical manufacturer, distributor, or importer provide Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) (formerly MSDSs or Material Safety Data Sheets) for each hazardous chemical to downstream users to communicate information on these hazards.

The MSDS does not have to list the amount that the hazardous chemical occurs in the product. Specifically. They are required as a part of any compliance obligation to be available and displayed prominently in the workplace. The public has a right to MSDS data upon request.
