How are caves formed when Limestone is dissolved?
As more and more limestone is dissolved large tunnels, networks of tunnels and joints, and actual caves become established. Once the caves and network of tunnels have formed different types of cave formations begin to evolve.
How long does it take for a cave to form?
In the case of caves, a “quick” forming limestone cave might take 50,000 years to form. The average cave takes 100,000 years or so. Some caves take millions of years to be created. Two factors can influence how long it takes most caves to form.
